Why it matters

Responsible recycling begins before anything becomes waste.

Recycling is important, but it is not the first and only answer. Our starting point is to understand what useful life remains, protect the information held on the device and choose an outcome that fits its real condition.

See our reuse-first route
02

Protect what is personal

The environmental journey must never come at the expense of privacy. Device data, account access and security locks are handled as separate, serious responsibilities.

03

Use the right route

Working, repairable and end-of-life devices need different outcomes. We avoid treating every item as though it belongs in one undifferentiated waste stream.

Reuse before recycling

The best route is the one that preserves the most usefulness.

UK WEEE guidance prioritises reuse of whole appliances before treatment and material recycling. Our approach reflects that same practical hierarchy: keep the complete device useful where possible, restore it where sensible, and recycle responsibly when another life is no longer practical.

Your data matters

Recycling the device never means recycling your personal life.

Photos, messages, accounts and documents can matter far more than the hardware itself. That is why data preparation begins with the customer and continues through the way we receive, inspect and handle an accessible device.

Read our data approach
01

You prepare the device

Back up anything you wish to keep, sign out of accounts, remove security locks and complete the correct factory reset before posting.

02

We treat residual data seriously

Every received device is handled as though personal information could remain. Access is limited to what is reasonably needed for identification, inspection, security or erasure.

03

Accessible devices may be wiped

Where a device is accessible and the transaction can proceed, a controlled wipe may be completed before the device is prepared for reuse.

04

Locked devices are paused

If a device cannot lawfully be accessed or wiped, we may ask for remote lock removal or arrange its return. We never need your password or authentication code.

Important:

Revante's controlled wipe is an additional safeguard. It does not replace your responsibility to back up and erase the device before dispatch. Never send us a password or authentication code.

The right outcome

Not every device should follow the same path.

A device is assessed according to what it is, how it works and what condition it is in. These practical differences help determine the next responsible route.

How we grade devices
01Working

Ready for reuse

A functioning device with practical life remaining can be prepared to move into another useful chapter.

02Recoverable

Repair or refurbishment

Where sensible, repair, testing or refurbishment can restore usefulness before recycling is considered.

03No resale value

Free recycling

A £0.00 valuation can still be an intentional acceptance route, helping an unwanted device avoid the household bin.

04End of useful life

Specialist recycling

Devices unsuitable for another life can be directed towards appropriate specialist channels for treatment and material recovery.

Value is not only financial

£0.00 can still mean a responsible yes.

Some device variations have no current cash value but can still be intentionally accepted for free recycling. On Revante, a £0.00 offer is clearly different from a device or variation we are not currently able to accept.

Materials and components

When another life is not practical, the materials still matter.

Electrical devices should not be placed in ordinary household rubbish. Appropriate separation and specialist handling help protect people, reduce avoidable waste and support the recovery of useful components and materials.

UK electrical recycling advice
Li

Batteries

Lithium batteries need careful handling because damage, crushing, heat or unsuitable disposal can create a serious fire risk.

Cu

Metals

Phones, tablets and laptops contain metals and components that should stay out of general household waste and move through suitable recovery routes.

PCB

Components

Boards, screens, cameras and other parts may retain practical value even when the complete device cannot return to use.

Our downstream standard

Where reuse is no longer suitable, devices should move through specialist routes appropriate to electrical waste, batteries and the risks involved. We do not describe Revante as “zero landfill” or “carbon neutral” without the evidence needed to support those claims.

Battery safety

A damaged battery needs a different kind of care.

Lithium batteries can become dangerous when swollen, punctured, crushed, leaking, unusually hot or incorrectly transported. Please tell us about any battery damage before sending the device.

01

Do not press, bend, puncture or attempt to remove a swollen battery.

02

Do not place a damaged battery or electrical device in household rubbish.

03

Contact Revante before posting so we can advise whether the normal route is suitable.

Our everyday practices

Responsibility also lives in the small operational choices.

The device outcome matters most, but the way an order is prepared, recorded, transported and communicated also deserves attention. These are the practical habits we build into the service.

01

Right-sized packaging

We encourage secure packaging that protects the device without unnecessary bulk, helping reduce avoidable material and transport space.

02

Digital-first records

Orders, inspection evidence and customer communication are managed digitally wherever practical, reducing reliance on unnecessary paperwork.

03

Fewer wasted journeys

Clear model, condition and posting guidance helps reduce preventable returns, repeated deliveries and avoidable handling.

04

Continuous improvement

We review how devices are received, assessed and routed so responsible practice develops with our service rather than becoming a one-off promise.

Before you post

Six small actions make for a safer, cleaner handover.

A responsible outcome starts before the parcel leaves your hands. This short checklist protects your information, helps us inspect the right device and alerts us to anything that may need special handling.

Responsible recycling FAQs

The important questions, answered plainly.

From data wiping to £0.00 recycling and damaged batteries, these are the details customers most often need before passing a device forward.

01Is selling a working device better than throwing it away?

A working or repairable device may have useful life remaining. Reuse keeps the complete product in circulation, while specialist recycling is more suitable when another practical life is no longer possible.

02Will Revante erase the data on my device?

You must back up and factory-reset your device before posting. Where an accessible device can proceed through the transaction, Revante may also complete a controlled wipe as an additional safeguard.

03What happens if my device is worth £0.00?

A £0.00 valuation means Revante can intentionally accept that variation for free recycling. It is different from a variation that we are not currently able to accept.

04What happens to a device that cannot be reused?

If reuse, repair or refurbishment is not practical, the device can be directed towards appropriate specialist recycling routes for treatment and recovery of usable components or materials.

05Can I post a device with a damaged battery?

Contact Revante before posting any device with a swollen, punctured, leaking, unusually hot or otherwise unsafe battery. Damaged lithium batteries need specific handling and may not be suitable for ordinary postal routes.

06Do you accept devices from UK businesses?

Yes. Businesses can contact Revante about phones, tablets, laptops and smart watches from upgrades, leavers or wider technology refreshes, with clear records for each order.
